Conference Dinner

Wednesday July 2, 2008, 20:00 hrs
Katavothres
(Included in registration fee)
Price for accompanying persons: € 70

Buses will take us for dinner to the Katavothres restaurant, located 2,5 km from Argostoli, right next to the water. The décor for this evening will be a beautiful old watermill and the surroundings of Argostoli golf. The restaurant is large, done up in a modern style, and its open space is very attractive and pleasant in the summer.

We intend to offer a wonderful night with friends, lots of delicious homemade Greek food, the opportunity to make new friends, and of course free flowing red and white wine.
We will enjoy live Greek music, some of us will try to dance like Zorba the Greek, but we will also entertain with chart hits and dance music! Katavorthres is a rare natural phenomenon: the water enters underground the land of Kefallonia at this point in the West, crosses Kefalonia underground, and feeds Melisani lake in the East.

In 1835, Stevens discovered that in the northern edge of the peninsula of Argostoli, the sea crumbles down to underground ravines. There he constructed the first watermill in Kefallonia, naming it after himself. In 1857, Miliaresis bought the area and Steven's Mill. Throughout the years many scientists have tried to explain the phenomenon, which was proved when they poured "ouranini" into the ravines of the peninsula of Argostoli and it reappeared 14 days later in Sami (Karavomylos). Today Katavothres is still an exciting scientific phenomenon and a charming rest area worth visiting.
Entertainment: Weather permitting, the Municipality of Argostoli dance group, in original costumes, will introduce us to the traditional spirit of Greek folk dances, accompanied by a live music performance.
After dancing, eating, and drinking to your hearts' content, buses will leave Katvothres at 23:30, to take us back to Argostoli at about 24:00 hours.
