Welcome message from the Mayor of Argostoli Mr. Georgios Tsilimidos

Mr. Georgios Tsilimidos, Mayor of Argostoli Dear Participants of Pre9 Conference,

We are pleased to welcome you to Pre9: Protection and Restoration of the Environment held in Argostoli, Kefallinia. Welcome to the Municipality of Argostoli.

Our municipality has expanded its old borders and is now the largest municipality not only in Kefallinia but in the Ionian Islands region as well.

The Municipality of Argostoli is the "heart" of the island. Besides the capital of the island, the city of Argostoli, and its suburbs, 10 other communities have been incorporated to the Municipality since 1999. This makes it a geographical and administrative entity blessed and gifted by nature, hospitable and friendly to visitors and humane to its citizens who enjoy continuous great bonds of social cohesion.

Cultural tradition, local aesthetics, awareness of our responsibilities, new ideas and information exchange for problem solving are the basis for our developing municipality.

Get to know better Kefallonia's crown jewel, its capital. Some of the most beautiful sunny beaches in Greece coupled with excellent local culture and cuisine may well be taken advantage of, in parallel with participation in the Conference.

Development of tourism in recent years is the result of hard work and cooperation between the municipality and the private sector. It is an effort that has given Argostoli a Panhellenic perspective that honestly makes me feel proud as Mayor and as a Kefallonian as I observe the just recognition of our island.

GEORGIOS TSILIMIDOS
MAYOR OF ARGOSTOLI
