Greetings from the Prefect of Cephalonia & Ithaca Mr. Dionisios Georgatos to all the participants in
the "9th International Congress for the Conservancy and the Restoration of the Environment"
It's a great honour for our Prefecture, to offer hospitality to the 9th International
Congress for the Conservancy and the Restoration of the Invironment, which will take place in
Argostoli on the 29th of June 2008, not only because it concerns a scientific event of
international prestige, but also because of its subject, apropos than ever.

The conduct of the Congress in Argostoli, has a important significance. Our Islands, Cephalonia and Ithaca,
are famed for their particular natural beauty and multiformity of their ecosystems.
In the same time, the Prefecture of Cephalonia, has the fortune to dispose of satisfying infrastructures that
concerns the conservancy of the environment, especially about the plants of handling solid and liquid wastes.
Of great importance the plants of the Renewal Sources of Energy. To mention that our plants comparatively the
rest Hellenic Prefectures are more satisfying.
In our times, there is a global alarm about the devastated effects of the human activity on the environment.
The consequences of the climate changes and the absurd exploitation, are obvious by now. The results of the
scientific research on the fields of the conservancy and the restoration of the environment assumes particular
value.
It is evident that the results of the research must became compass and binding the formers of the environmental
line of action on national, local and community level. The common hub between the scientific research and the
choices of the line of action must be the achievement of the objects of the endless development, through the
green economy.
We hope that the results of the Congress, will make known the necessity of a complete protection of the
environment, on the hub of the endless and viable development.
From our side we assure you that we will make efforts for the perfect conduct of the Congress and the
unobstructed and warm hospitality.
